Make no mistake… We wish this site didn’t have to exist, but human nature being what it is, we’re here to do what we can for the birds that get caught in the middle of bad situations almost every day. We are NOT here to provide cheap birds to people. Our sole focus is the welfare of the bird.

Every year, thousands of well meaning people purchase or adopt Birds of Paradise without realizing the commitment such a step requires. They find out too late that the bird needs more than they can provide, or simply realize that birdkeeping is just not their cup of tea.

Some of the most common situations:

  • Noise

While each species has their own characteristics, all birds are flock creatures. That means they crave company above all else. Left alone, a parrot will cry… very loudly for some species… until they’re no longer alone. Much to the dismay of their owner’s neighbors. Especially in apartments and Condos. Usually this ends in the owner being forced to either give up the bird or move.

  • Biting

All birds bite. It’s normal and natural. Humans do much the same thing when we flail our arms in defense against a perceived danger. Imagine your reaction if something 8 times your height and 20 times your body mass reached down and picked you up! It takes a long time to establish trust… give your bird a chance. NEVER hit a bird. The best way to correct behavior problems is to put the bird in his cage and cover it for 15 to 20 minutes. Birds are flock creatures. The worst thing that can happen (in his eyes) is to be left alone.

  • Relocation, a death in the family, divorce, a new baby, etc.

All these things can be lumped into “changes in the human condition”. They happen, and they’re nothing to be ashamed of. Most birds will bond with one family member more strongly than the others. Should that person die or move out (divorce), the bird will often scream continuously for long periods.

Our goal is to match birds and people. We screen all prospective recipients very carefully. The bird must show an acceptance of a prospective new owner, and we conduct follow up monitoring for a long period after the adoption. A donor may specify any conditions they wish for potential recipients (non smoking home, etc.) and all will be followed to the letter. We never place birds to make space in our aviary.

So, if you are certain that you really do need to find a new home for your bird, fill out our donor form and we’ll contact you. We are located in Northeastern Pennsylvania (near Wilkes-Barre) and will pick up birds in a 200 mile radius of our location, and we PROMISE that the bird will be well cared for, and will go to a new home that he/she will be happy and loved in.
